Awards and Honors
From 1979 to 1980, Dr. Lin was dispatched by Taipei Veterans General Hospital to Saudi Arabia, where he widely provided acupuncture treatment to the Saudi people. In 1980, he was honored with the "Golden Robe Award" by the Saudi government.
In 1983, the Ministry of Education's National Institute for Compilation and Translation included Dr. Lin's clinical acupuncture treatment for the people of Saudi Arabia in the "Civics and Ethics" textbook for junior high schools, under the international exchange section (page 54).
In 1985, the World Chinese Medicine Academic Conference was held in Los Angeles, USA, where Dr. Lin was awarded the title of "Best Acupuncturist of the Year".
In 1985, Dr. Lin was recognized for his outstanding achievements by both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and was presented with the Honorary Citizenship Certificate by the Mayor of Monterey.
In 1989, Dr. Lin was honored by being included in the World Celebrity Register of the American Historical Preservation Association.
In 1990, the "Academic Contribution Award" by Yanni Christopher, the then-President of the Republic of El Salvador in Central America.
In 1991, Dr. Jaung-Geng Lin was listed in the Who’s Who of International Scholars, published by the International Biographical Centre (IBC) of Cambridge, England.
In 1993, Dr. Lin was awarded Taiwan's "Presidential Cultural Award" by President Teng-Hui Lee.
In 1994, the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences awarded Dr. Lin the highest prize for an acupuncturist.
In 2002, the "Xinglin Images" album in the "Children's Magazine" published by the Ministry of Education in an article entitled "The ever first doctor of acupuncture in Taiwan, Jaung-Geng Lin".
In 2003, Tawian's President Shui-Bian Chen awarded Dr. Lin a plaque inscribed with "Excellence in Traditional Chinese Medicine" (communiqué of presidential office Issue 6534, No. 09200-20670).
In 2004, the Honour Member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Science; and an Honorary Doctorate by the Vasile Goldiș Western University of Arad, Romania.
In 2009, Dr. Lin was invited to attend the World Health Organization (WHO) conference on "Evidence-Based Guidelines for Traditional Medicine" held in Milan. In 2012, he was invited to participate in the WHO forum on the "Western Pacific Region Traditional Medicine Strategy (2011-2020)" in Hong Kong. In 2015, representing the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS), he was invited to the 66th session of the WHO Western Pacific Regional Committee meeting in Guam. In 2017, also representing WFAS, he was invited to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 140th session of the WHO Executive Board meeting, where he delivered a keynote speech on " The Use of Acupuncture in Emergency Medical Services."
Since 2013, Dr. Lin has been appointed by UNESCO as an expert scholar and advisory consultant, representing the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. He was invited to attend the 8th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Baku, Azerbaijan. In 2014, he was invited to the 9th Session of the same committee in Paris, France, where he delivered a keynote speech at the ICH NGO Forum. In 2015, he was invited to participate in the 10th Session of the committee held in Namibia, Africa.
In 2017, Dr. Lin was elected as the President of the International Society of Oriental Medicine (ISOM), becoming the first-ever Chinese/Taiwanese President of this organization in its 42-year history.
In the 2017 SCI journal article "Trends in Global Acupuncture Publications: An Analysis of the Web of Science Database from 1988 to 2015," Dr. Lin's acupuncture research ranked 4th worldwide and 1st among Chinese researchers.
In 2019, Dr. Lin was invited to deliver a lecture "The use of the acupuncture as a medical care for the elderly patients" in International Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare, which was organized by the BMJ (British Medical Journal).
In 2020, Dr. Lin was honored by President Tsai Ing-wen for his contributions to COVID-19 prevention efforts.
In 2021, Dr. Lin was awarded the "Contribution Award of Friends of Diplomacy" by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister Jaushieh-Joseph Wu personally presented the award in recognition of his contribution, which can be regarded as a model of Taiwan's medical diplomacy.
In 2021, Dr. Lin was awarded the Traditional Chinese Medicine Contribution Award by President Tsai Ing-wen at the National Medicine Day ceremony.
In 2021, Dr. Lin was selected as the cover character of the "Taichung City Medical Circles" magazine by the Taichung City Medical Association. The story reported the topic of "the world's only compilation of A Comparative Dictionary of Chinese and Western Medical Disease Names; Dr. Jaung-Geng Lin integrates Chinese and Western medicine on the WHO stage". The story also detailed on Dr. Lin’s international medical diplomacy career, and his inspiration to the pupils.
In 2021, Stanford University announced the World's Top 2% Scientists 2020 list, and Professor Lin was ranked 24th among 11,649 scholars in the field of Complementary & Alternative Medicine (top 0.2%).
In 2022, I was invited to participate in and give a keynote speech at the World Federation of Acupuncture Societies (WFAS) annual conference. I also received the highest honor from the conference - the "World Acupuncture Outstanding Contribution Award".
In 2023, awarded the 112th Annual Ministry of Health and Welfare's 2nd Jade Step Award – Special Contribution Award.
In 2024, Dr. Lin was awarded the National Medicine Model Award by Premier Chen Chien-jen at the National Medicine Day ceremony.
In 2025, appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the international Chinese medicine English electronic journal, The Journal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (eJTCM), under the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
